Mrs. Khan assumed the role of FCAB Chairman after the sudden and untimely death of her husband, Abdul Majid Khan, FCAB’s Founding Chairman. She and her husband have been involved in giving back to various communities for decades before FCAB was formalized, including founding the Ann Arbor Islamic Cultural Center, being active members of South Asian cultural organizations and other civic institutions both in the US and Bangladesh. Mrs. Khan is a homemaker and educator in the Ann Arbor Public School system. She is originally from Sirajganj in Bangladesh and emigrated to the US in 1977. She graduated from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Economics and Political Science in 1969 and is currently pursuing courses at Washtenaw Community College. Her achievements include raising four children in Ann Arbor, Michigan – three sons and one daughter, a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force, an engineer and finance professional, a doctor and a lawyer to uphold and respect their dual Bangladeshi-American Muslim heritage. Her passions include gardening, reading, writing and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She is committed to providing opportunities for others and strongly believes that the best way to worship God is to respect all humanity and serve His creations, especially the underprivileged everywhere.

Mr. Mahmood is a registered professional Environmental Engineer with more than 20 years of experience conducting and managing engineering projects involving solid waste and air pollution control permitting and planning. Currently he works for a multinational engineering company. He resides in Ann Arbor, Michigan with his wife and two daughters. As an expatriate Bangladeshi he feels fortunate to be part of FCAB’s social and developmental activities. He believes, provided with the right opportunity and resource one can definitely change their social and economic status.

Professor Golam Newaz (Ph.D. Theoretical and Applied Mechanics) of Mechanical Engineering Department, Wayne State University is a leading expert in advanced materials and composite materials for damage tolerant structural applications in aerospace and automotive systems. In addition to his focused area of research, he is currently working in the areas of sustainable materials and manufacturing. He has over one hundred and fifty journal publications and over two hundred conference papers and has co-authored a number of books.

Randi Lauler has been a consulting nutritionist for over 30 years. With her master’s degree in Nutrition Education she has worked as a community college instructor in Seattle, Visiting Nurse Services consulting nutritionist for their First Steps program and a private consultant. She was an active member of the Washington State Food and Nutrition Council and helped initiate their committee on addressing hunger issues in the state. In addition to general nutrition courses, she taught courses on topics ranging from integrating nutrition education into home day care centers, nutrition in early childhood for child care workers, community nutrition courses for new parents, and developed the course, Quick Nutritious meals for Busy People. In 2001, she moved with her family from Seattle into the expat life as her husband’s work took them to live in 4 different countries, South Korea, Kenya, Peru and Bangladesh. This new opportunity gave her a chance to volunteer with a variety of development projects that helped her to build an awareness of the challenges in bringing good intentions to life within a community. Bangladesh has given her a chance to apply her knowledge of nutrition as an advisor on the Pediatric Oncology Unit at BSMMU. In this capacity, she was able to work with both doctors and parents of patients on the ward regarding best practices in the area of nutrition, not only directly with parents during their stay in the ward but with the doctors during rounds and in seminars. She was a contributor for the nutrition section of the National Guidelines for Management of Childhood Malignancies in Bangladesh and was a guest speaker at the 4th International SIOP-PODC workshop on Nutrition in Children with Cancer held in Mumbai, 2016. She is privileged to be a part of the FCAB team.

Md Shahid Uddin Akbar is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Bangladesh Institute of ICT in Development (BIID), an inclusive business initiative to promote the use of ICT as a tool for development.
Mr. Akbar worked as ICT Consultant in SwissContact/Katalyst, Bangladesh and introduced Rural ICT Market in Bangladesh led by private sector. Mr. Akbar is now serving as the Chairman of Asia Pacific Telecentre Network (APTN), a regional network of 8 member countries promoting telecentre and ICT4D.

Most of Dr. Alauddin’s professional career is in the field of reproductive health towards improving maternal and child health. He worked for 22 years as Country Representative of Pathfinder International in Bangladesh in implementing reproductive health programs in Bangladesh through NGOs funded by USAID. Dr. Alauddin received his PhD in Population Planning from the University of Michigan in 1979 and a Master of Social Welfare also from the University of Michigan in 1974 and a Master’s in Social Welfare from Dhaka University, Bangladesh.

Ms. Huda has over 30 years of development experience in Bangladesh in various sectors. She has experience in coordination, liaison and management of multi-sectoral development programs with a range of responsibilities for program development, implementation, budget preparation, monitoring & evaluation, training, facilitation, impact assessment, manual and teacher guide development, survey, research and program administration in the areas of education/ children education, health, water & sanitation, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, gender, women’s empowerment, credit, child rights and local government governance.

Dr. MQK Talukder is a pioneer in pediatrics and child nutrition in Bangladesh having established the clinical unit of childhood malnutrition and the Bangladesh Breastfeeding Foundation among other things. Dr. Talukder founded the Institute of Child and Mother Health (ICMH) at Matuail in Dhaka as well as helped found the Centre for Woman and Child Health (CWCH) at Ashulia, Dhaka in 2004. He graduated from Dhaka Medical College in 1962 and completed a Diploma in Human Nutrition from London University in 1968 and was awarded a PhD in 1972 from the University of Edinburgh, UK and passed a Diploma in Child Health (DCH) in 1974 from Glasgow. He has received numerous awards and distinctions for his work and service.
