FCAB’s integrated development model of health, education, agro/livelihood and water/sanitation rests on adequate clean
energy and sustaining the environment. FCAB’s commitment to environmentally friendly solutions is evidenced by its use
of solar batteries to help power its clinic and use of renewable, clean energy to meet other community needs. It seeks to
innovate the role of energy in a village by creating Bangladesh’s first eco-friendly ‘Smart Village’ by incorporating
sustainable energy as the foundation of its development solutions. FCAB installed the area’s first solar streetlights,
provided homes with solar energy, introduced the village’s first biogas plant, and piloted a solar bike for its staff. FCAB is
committed to protecting the environment by installing waste bins throughout the village and introducing a ‘no littering’
campaign.
The solar bike makes it easier and time efficient for staff to visit the neighboring villages when providing health and sanitation services.
